Love & Black History Month

I often wondered why Black History Month is the same as the month we celebrate love. As a child growing up there was always an emphasis to learn about those who paved the way all year round, but especially in February. February to me has become a month where we get to celebrate a piece of history that some would like to cover up and some are saddened to know the harsh realities of. As a child, I watch some get angry and some feel so guilty about the past. No matter what I say my question was where is the love? Whatever ethnic makeup you are, the premise as a child of God is love! Love is what should move you to call out injustice and take care of the less fortunate. Love is what caused God to die on the cross for you and me. I know you may say it isn’t that simple. But is it? We use the word hate a lot, when will use and practice the word love as God does? “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” 1 John 4:8
